Curriculum vitae

EMILY GERNILD (*1985 Odense, Denmark) lives and works in Copenhagen.

In her paintings, Gernild engages with unobserved motifs: objects that we take for granted and which surround us in our private and public everyday lives. The beauty and intimate drama of transience is a constant motivation for her.

She studied fine arts at The Funen Art Academy in Odense, Denmark. During her studies,  she spent a year in Düsseldorf as a painting student of Prof. Tal R at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Gernild's work has been exhibited in museums such as ARKEN, Trapholt (permanent collection), Rønnebæksholm, Kastrupgårdsamlingen (permanent collection), Gl Holtegaard, and Vestjyllands Kunstmuseum. She had her first major solo exhibition at Gl. Holtegaard in 2023/ 2024. Emily Gernild's works can be found in both European and North American collections, and she has furthermore had various important gallery exhibitions, among others at CFA (Berlin), OSL Contemporary (Oslo), Galleri Bo Bjerggaard (Copenhagen). Gernild received an honorary grant from Niels Wessel Bagges Arts Foundation in 2021.
