EMILY GERNILD (*1985 Copenhagen, Denmark) lives and works in Copenhagen.
In her paintings, Gernild engages with unobserved motifs: objects that we take for granted and which surround us in our private and public everyday lives. The beauty and intimate drama of transience is a constant motivation for her.
She studied fine arts at The Funen Art Academy in Odense, Denmark. During her studies she spent a year in Düsseldorf with Tal R at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Gernild has been exhibited at museums Arken, Trapholt (permanent collection), Rønnebæksholm, Kastrupgårdsamlingen (permanent collection) and Vestjyllands kunstmuseum, and will have her first major solo exhibition at Gl. Holtegaard in 2023. She is represented in both European and North American collections, and has furthermore exhibited at CFA Berlin, OSL Contemporary, Galleri Bo Bjerggaard and others. Gernild received an honorary grant from Niels Wessel Bagges Arts Foundation in 2021
